Maybe there’s a special spot in Heaven where prayers from Earth come through.

Maybe it’s in the garden, and it kind of looks like a wishing well, a little stone circle in a humble patch of grass.

Not many angels bother going there, for what do they care for the concerns of humans?

But maybe there are two angels who will lay themselves on the ground for hours, side by side, the tips of their wings brushing gently as they just sit in silence and listen to the humans.

Some offer prayers of gratitude and thanks for the blessings in their lives.

Often they’ll hear a child’s prayer for their house pet to live after an injury or sickness.

The greatest numbers are requests; Please let me be pregnant. Please let me not be pregnant. Please ease his suffering. Please give me retribution.

There are even some prayers of anger, questioning the will of God or his presence in their life.

Many prayers are full of love, praying for protection of their loved ones. Please keep him safe. Please let her come home.

Castiel is fond of those prayers that ask for safety and comfort. He particularly enjoys the sound of a woman’s voice who prays every night for angels to watch over her children. It’s curious to him that she appeals to angels specifically, when most of these pleas are meant for his father.

Anna’s favorites concern the small, meaningless details of human life. Prayers that aren’t really even meant for anyone’s ears, but there’s intent, so they slip through anyways; prayers that the cake isn’t burnt or that they didn’t leave the coffeemaker on at home.

Later, it makes sense that these two angels who were so fascinated by humanity are two who fell.

One fell for the whole of humanity and one fell for just one man in particular.
